As much as you like the lamp and table that you purchased from the yard sale, the truth of the matter is that your loved ones may not like them as much. Also, remember that you didn’t need those items. You already had a nice lamp and table but couldn’t pass up a good deal. So, you decided to put it in storage in case you or someone else could use it one day.

How many other items have you accumulated in a similar manner? What happens to these items after you die? I know that we don’t like to think about these things, but upon your death, someone will have to sort through your items to determine what to keep and what to get rid of and how.

Maybe we aren’t hoarders but maybe it is time to declutter a little. The flip-top cell phone and charger purchased 15 years ago? The clothing items that you will never wear again? The box with performance reviews from four jobs ago?

If you take some time and regularly perform this “decluttering” task, it will benefit your loved ones upon your demise. It could also result in the elimination of a storage unit and save you some money. Declutter for dollars!
